Team completes two successful post-fire biodiversity samples

In November 2020, the first spring after the fire, a large team reset 376 permanent pitfall traps at Wog Wog and added 100 new traps to sample small refugia and areas of especially high, or low, burn intensity. In February 2021, the team reopened pitfall traps to collect the summer sample.

The lab team, led by Andy Hicks, has sorted the November sample to order and Andy is now working to identify all beetles to species. More than 700 beetle species have been recorded at the site. Andy leads a productive group of undergraduate students in the lab.
